they thought it was there. But regardless of why it’s there, it’s our town, and with everyone’s help today, we can hopefully make that R a little bit better.”
Lopez did not make the climb with the group, but organized operations at base camp.
According to mapcarta.com, Camp- bell Mountain stands nearly 1,730 feet in elevation. The terrain on the mountain is described as steep, rugged and full of jag- ged rocks.
Bev Buckley was among the group of volunteers at the base camp and said she was happy to be participating in the project again.
“I went with them three years ago,”
I love it, this is why I’m coming back to do this again. I used to live on Lincoln [Ave- nue] about three miles south of here, and I always wanted to climb that mountain, and here I am doing it again. I am just thrilled.

Buckley said the climb would not be easy, and urged volunteers to be pre- pared.
“It’s at least intermediate to hard. It’s steep up there and you’re breathing hard and trying to catch your breath, someone should be in somewhat good shape to try and attempt to do this,” she said.
“The hike starts out kind of gradual and then goes into a grassy steep and then it goes into the rocks. Then, you think you’re not going to make it but then you’re almost there to the R.”
Following the hike, volunteers were served lunch, given t-shirts and thanked for their efforts.
