Down one run in the seventh inning, Sanger used their final at bats to score the tying run and extend the game to extra innings. And after Dinuba was unable to muster any offense in the top of the eighth inning, the Apaches took advantage of their late momentum and won the game on a walk-off run in the bottom of the eighth, winning the game 3-2.
After Saturday’s loss to Sanger, Dinuba’s overall record fell to 11-6. They traveled to Visalia on Tuesday to take on Central Valley Christian in their sixth league game of the season. Tuesday’s game against the Cavaliers was the second meeting between the two teams. Dinuba beat CVC 2-1 in a home game back on Mar. 15. Results of Tuesday’s game were not yet available at the time of publication.
Yesterday the Emperors traveled to Hanford to take on the Huskies of Hanford West. That game also took place after publication.
Tomorrow Dinuba will play CVC again in their third meeting of the season and their second in three days. Tomorrow night’s game will be a home game and will begin at 7 p.m.
The Emperors will have another home game on Tuesday when they host rival Selma. That game also begins at 7 p.m.
In the 400-meters race, Dinuba had two runners in the top three. Juniors Diego Estrada and Danny Araujo finished in second and third place, respectively. Estrada finished with a time of 53.86 seconds while Araujo finished right behind him with a time of 54.20 seconds.
Estrada and Araujo also helped their team with respectable finishes in the 800-meters race. This time it was Araujo who was Dinuba’s top finisher, taking third place with a time of 2:06.46. Estrada finished the race in sixth place with a time of 2:10.47. Also doing well in the event was senior Leo Jimenez, who finished in fifth place with a time 2:09.22.
On the extended track, Dinuba’s long distance runners continued to show their strength as the Emperors collected three top-ten finishes in both the 1600-meters and 3200-meters race.
Dinuba senior Jaime Cueva was the top Emperor in the 1600-meters, finishing in third place with a time of 4:42.35, a personal record for him. Junior Jonathan Padilla finished in fourth place with a time of 4:44.06 and senior Oscar Perez finished in sixth place with a time of 4:44.27, also a personal record.
The three runners had even better results in the 3200-meters race. Padilla finished in second place with a season record time of 9:57.14 and Perez finished right behind him in third place with a time of 10:05.89. Cueva finished the event in fourth place with a time of 10:11.38.
In the 300-meters hurdles event, Dinuba sophomore Nathaniel Medina placed fifth with a personal record time of 44.38.
In field events, and in the absence of the league’s leading shot putter in Dinuba’s Alex Sandoval, the Emperors managed to score points in five events. Seniors A.J. Rodriguez and Adam Aguilar placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the shot
put event. Rodriguez’s longest throw was 40’09”, a season record for him, and Aguilar threw for 40’07”. He also took second place in the discus event with a throw of 121’07”.
Dinuba sophomore Devon Mendoza set a personal record in the high jump, clearing 5’10” for third place in the event. Meanwhile, Ortuno-Campbell scored more points for his team in the triple jump event with a distance of 38’11”.
Martinez’s first place finish in the long jump marked the fifth field event the Emperors scored points in.
As for the Lady Emperors track team, the long distance runner continued to make strides for the team. Sophomore Jackie Delgado ran a personal record time of 2:33.66 in the 800-meters race to take home second place in the event.
She also took first place in the 1600-meters race with a time 5:41.21. Teammate Luz Diaz finished right behind her in the event with a second-place finish of 5:48.32.
In the 3200-meters race, freshmen Ali Ontiveras and Amando Soto finished in third and fourth place, respectively. Ontiveras finished with a time of 13:33.60 while Soto put in a personal record performance with a time of 13:40.71.
Sophomore Yazmine Villarreal Harris was the top finisher in the discus event, crushing the competition with a throw of 108’07”, nearly 17 feet further than the second place finisher.
Junior Karla Gonzalez finished in fifth place in the shot put event with a throw of 28’0.75”, a personal record for her.
Dinuba High’s track and field team will next compete in the Jared Verbeek Invitational at Mt. Whitney tomorrow afternoon. They will then be competing in the West Coast Relays at Buchanan on Saturday. That event will feature 53 schools from throughout the Valley, making it the largest pool of competition this year. The meet begins at 9 a.m.

ended up losing their third game of the season. Said Patterson after the game, “If you open that door a little bit, good teams are going to step through that door, they’re going to push
that door open and they’re going...”
Lady Emperors vs. CVC
In Dinuba’s league opener, the Lady Emperors faced yet another tough opponent. Central Valley Christian entered Tuesday’s game with a 12-2 overall record. That record, impressive as it may seem, was only good enough for second place in the top-heavy Central Sequoia League.

Gladiators drop enrollment fee after receiving donation
The league’s top team is currently Exeter, who as of Tuesday had an overall record of 18-1. Dinuba entered Tuesday’s matchup with CVC with a 13-3 record and in third place. The Lady Emperors scored two runs in both the second and third innings and then scored three runs in the fourth, followed by four runs in the sixth to close out their league opener against CVC.
Tomorrow night the Lady Emperors will travel to Kingsburg for their second league game of the season. That game begins at 6 p.m.

Sentinel staff report
Last year’s enrollment fee to join the Dinuba Gladiators youth football program was $135. This year, after receiving a $5,000 donation from an anonymous donor, the league is dropping their fees to just $55.
“This is going to allow a lot of young kids, who might not normally have the opportunity, a chance to play the game of
football,” said Gladiator’s Sam Smith.
According to Smith, the donation will cover the cost of running the league for the year and the $55 fee will cover the cost of the uniforms, something players will keep at the end of the year. The Gladiators will be conducting a conditioning camp on Sunday at KC Park.
For more information, call Smith at 307-3249.
