Reedley High School guard Aaron Todd (4) fired a pass ahead to teammate Jordon Chavez during the Pirates' 68-61 victory over McLane on Jan. 16. Chavez scored 16 points while Todd added 14 points, and the Pirates used a 13-0 scoring run in the first and second quarters to take command. The Friday, Jan. 25 home game with Roosevelt is Youth Night, with young players in uniform getting free admission.

Villarreal paced RHS with 17 points.
The game against Roosevelt is "Youth Night" and Ferrell said all the city's youth basketball programs are invited to attend the game. City Ball and Small Ball camp coaches can bring their players in uniform or the camp T-shirts and get free admission to the game. Also, junior high level players can attend the game for free if they wear
their uniform. Ferrell said this year's Small Ball camps had more than 75 young players participating.
After the Selma game on Jan. 19, Reed- ley has just one more home game in league. That's on Monday, Feb. 4, when Hoover High visits on Senior Night. Varsity tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
Because of the earlier school year, the Central Section playoffs begin the week of Feb. 13. Final games are scheduled for Feb. 22-23 at Fresno's Selland Arena.

the state, the College of the Sequoias Giants, defeated the Tigers 67-57 in the Tiger Den.
Reedley hosted CVC lead- er Merced College — ranked No.3instate—onJan.23 following the men’s game with West Hills Coalinga.
Another doubleheader is set for Saturday, Jan. 26, against district rival Fresno City College. The men’s game precedes the women's game, which has a scheduled 5 p.m. tipoff.
The COS women (3-1, 18- 3) used a trio of 3-pointers to build as much as a 12-point lead in the third quarter. Stephanie Cervantes (Dinuba High) scored half of Reed- ley’s 14 third quarter points as COS took a 50-41 lead into the break.
The Lady Tigers (2-1, 10-8) scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to one. But
Alaysia Reed’s third 3-pointer of the game rebuilt the lead to four. Reed led all scorers with 23. Hailey Scott had a double double for the win- ners with 13 points and 11 re- bounds. Shae Sanchez made four 3-pointers and finished with 16.
I’man Conley led Reedley with 13 Cervantes finished with 12 while Tonee Bland came off the bench to add 12. All seven Reedley players to see action reached the scor- ing column.
Reedley led by as many as nine points on two occa- sions in the first quarter at 18-9 and 22-13. But Sequoias picked up the defensive in- tensity in the second quar- ter holding Reedley to just five points. The Lady Giants scored the final eight points of the second quarter to take a 30-27 lead into the inter- mission.
Conley scored 10 of the Lady Tigers’ 22 first quarter points but was held scoreless in the second quarter.
tral Valley Conference softball title and reaching the second round of the North- ern California Reedley Regionals last year, Reedley College head coach Kathy Kuball has high hopes in 2019.
The new season begins on Saturday, Jan. 26, in Reedley as the Lady Tigers host Hartnell in a noon doubleheader.
“We return a solid core of sopho- mores that will make key contributions in our quest for another CVC champi- onship and run for a state tournament berth,” Kuball said.
Topping the list of returnees is pitcher Emily Grimbleby, who finished fourth in the state last season with 230 strikeouts. The sophomore from Sierra High was the winning pitcher in 21 of Reedley’s 29 wins last season. She finished with a 21-10 record and a 2.36 earned run average for a squad that went 29-12-1 overall.
“Both Emily and Hunter Young (1-1) are looking good on the mound,” said the coach. “New addition Amanda Beltran will contribute.”
Leading the offense will be Aunika Castellanos (4 HR, .403 and 32 rbi) and Sandra Vallejo (.337, 2 HR and 42 rbi). “Both are very solid and are providing great leadership,” said Kuball.
Top incoming freshmen include catch- er Sam Lizaola, outfielder Bobbie Falcon and utility player Brianna Stephens.
“The team is working really hard to prepare for what lies ahead and are ex- cited to get started.”
After facing Hartnell, Reedley is scheduled to travel to Gilroy on Thurs- day, Jan. 31, to face Gavilan in a 2 p.m. doubleheader. CVC action begins on Tues- day, March 5, with a 1 p.m. home twinbill with West Hills Coalinga.
