At the meet and greet mixer for the Sanger High School Athletic Hall of Fame, the Morenos, a band from Fresno, played under the trees next to the former kindergarten room of the Warren G. Harding School built in 1922.
Vance Enriquez, his wife Virginia and son Vincent Michael catered the event, setting up and getting ready.
Tom Nicholson, whose father Dean last year had his name officially and permanently etched onto Sanger High’s main gym, had produced a near minute-to-minute time line for the Sept. 28 event, and everything proceeded smoothly. People began to gather. Handshakes were exchanged. Sports were discussed.
Then the man of the hour arrived.
Tom Flores brought his wife, Barbara. Both walked up just like they were on the way to meet old friends. And many were. Ismael “Mike” Hernandez, a Sanger Unified board member, wore a shirt bearing the logo of the

The Keys to a Happy Heart — Part 3
Last week we discovered from Philippians 2:13 that God is with me, in me and for me.
This week we will look at “How to Keep a Happy Heart” from Philippians 2:15: “You are to live clean and pure lives as children of God in a broken and corrupted generation. You are to shine like stars, lighting up a dark world.”
To insure a happy heart, you need to have a clear conscience. You’ve got to get rid of guilt. You

stuff for kids,” Flores said. “They don’t know who I am but they know my name.”
And he mentioned the football game. “I’m looking forward to the game tonight,” he said. “I see Sanger High football is still winning.”
And they didn’t let him down in a thriller that came down to the final seconds with passes swatted away and strategic tackles and blocks making all the difference in the win. Flores had served as grand marshal for the homecoming parade prior to the game.
Nominees for the next class of inductees to the hall of fame will be accepted until Oct. 15. The next induction ceremony for May 4, 2019 in the Sanger Community Center.

cannot be guilty and happy at the same time. You need to maintain a clear conscience. “You are to shine like stars, lighting up a dark world.”
What a beautiful image. To be a shining star, you are to live a clean life, full of integrity, purity and authenticity. Your life can be an open book with a clear conscience. Psalm 119:1-2 says, “Happy are those who live pure lives, who follow the Lord’s teaching, keep his rules, and try to obey him with their whole hearts.”

And Ted Torosian, who played for Fresno State and the USFL, talked about his time on Sanger’s 1976 championship football team and how more people should know about the impact of Coach Dean Nicholson. Of course, Torosian thinks the world of Flores. Most around here do.
Trailing Flores was a video crew hired by the Oakland Raiders to produce an hour-long documentary on his life and career. The crew followed him later that evening to the stadium that bears his name behind Washington Academic Middle School and onto the field when he flipped the coin to start the Sanger vs. Madera football game that night. Sanger won 36-33.
Flores’ visit marked the closest thing to royalty Sanger has. Flores earned four Super Bowl rings. He played and coached in the NFL. And, perhaps because of his influence, the Raiders dominate NFL fan culture in the area.

homecoming game later that night, a couple guys decked out in what only could be described as post- apocalyptic Raiders wear, hung out at the stadium to the delight of fans there to get a glimpse of their hero. They showed their respect.
Flores is not out for publicity. He’s truly a nice guy.
He recorded a community service announcement, promoting the hall of fame. He signed footballs. He posed for individual and group photographs.
Sanger mayor Frank Gonzalez said he’s been a Raider fan since age 10 when he went to his first game. When he learned that Flores, who played for Sanger High and grew up in his home town, was coach, “I was a fan for life,” Gonzalez said in remarks to the coach at the event.
Gonzalez said years ago he asked to see one of Flores’ Super Bowl rings. And he said it affected him significantly.
“It’s always nice to come back to Sanger,” Flores said. He said he and the video crew went to his old house at 424 L St. and the color had changed. He said he was surprised he

Sanger Job & Resource Fair on Oct. 2. "I'm looking for an administrative assistant job," Perez said, after talking with the representative at the California Employment Development Department desk. And she is bilingual. Demario Jones, who played basketball for the Sanger Apaches, was looking for a full-time position. He said he got a promising lead from a staffing agency. Jason Hartman, a junior at Sanger High, said he was looking for something part-time. He dubbed the offerings at the job fair "not bad." Corina Tamez with the city of Sanger said in the first hour of the fair more than 200 people had come in through the door. A new feature this year was the Fresno County Public Library Digi Bus, which offered attendees more than a dozen computer work stations, wifi and printers. Librarians also hooked up those who needed extra help with online databases to help them complete their resumes. Several job hunters enlisted the services of online resume coaches who helped spruce up their work histories.

want relief from our pain. The Bible says it comes from purity. Purity comes from forgiveness, from God’s grace. What happiness! What joy! What relief for those who have confessed their sins and God has cleared their
record.
I have to keep a clear
conscience. That means I keep short accounts with God. That means at the beginning and at the end of every day I do a spiritual inventory. I ask, “God, is there anything between You and me? Get rid of all the junk in your life. You practice what’s called spiritual breathing.
Read to a Dog with Vinny! is the second and fourth Saturday of each month. The Builders’ Club for Lego enthusiasts is the second and fourth Wednesday.
You breathe out your sins in confession and you breathe in God’s power and cleansing.
1 John 1:9 promises, “If we confess our sins he’s faithful and just to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” So I keep my conscience clear. I keep short accounts with God. That’s the key to a HAPPY HEART!

God.”
Do you know
what the word “blessed” means?
It’s the word for “happy” in Greek.
In Matthew 5,
Jesus gave the greatest sermon
ever taught — the beatitudes. He’s declaring, “Let me give you eight ways to be happy!”
Jesus said the blessed (happy) are the pure in heart for they shall see God. A pure, clean heart is a happy heart.
What do we do when we do not have a clean pure heart? You might think, “I’d like to be happy, but
how do I keep my conscience clear when it’s not clear right now?”
Then you need to do what Psalm 32:1 says. “What happiness for those whose guilt has been forgiven!
What joys when sins are covered over! What relief for those who have confessed their sins and God has cleared their record.”
Look at those words “happiness,” “joy” and “relief.” Those are three things we all want in life. We all want to be happy. We all want to enjoy life. We all
