Even though the first
day of fall and more typical football weather is a month away the weather this Friday will be much better for the Apache game with Hanford than it was for the Reedley game last Friday.
It was 100 degrees at kick- off and in the mid 90s during most of last week's game. It will probably be in the high 80s at the 7:30 p.m. kickoff in Hanford and in the mid 80s during most of the game.
It's not quite yet sweater wearing weather.
Both teams are coming off blowouts. Sanger beat Reedley 45-0 and Hanford beatHanfordWest63-6. So this will be the first major
challenge of the new season for both teams.
The Apaches have a home game the following week with the Clovis East Timber- wolves. The Timberwolves lost to the Lemoore Tigers, another future Apache op- ponent, last week 7-6.
The forecast is for day- time temperatures in the mid 80s to mid 90s for the rest of the month.
With firefighters gaining control of most of the forest fires, the air is also getting better. Earlier this week the air quality was reported to be"Good"inSanger while it was still lingering in the "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups" in Fresno, and in Hanford it was "Moderate"
- in between the Sanger and
Fresno extremes.
In case the forecast is
wrong, remember, there is a cooling center in Sanger at the Sanger annex building, 1789 Jensen Avenue. It opens from noon to 6 p.m. when
the temperature reaches 105 degrees.

It was there again last Friday when the Apaches opened the 2018 football season with a 45-0 blowout of the Reedley Pirates. Everyone in Tom Flores Stadium could feel it. Everyone, at least on the home side of the field, became part of it, the "One Town, One Tribe, One Team" spirit that has help lift the Apaches to winning season after winning season. It's more than the almost constant cheering, chanting, tomahawk chopping student section, known as "The Tribe." It's an attitude, a spirit, a feeling of pride in our team and our town. Under Friday night lights we truly are one town, one tribe and one team. The Tribe and the Nation - the rest of us in the stands and patrolling the sidelines - have become known for being the best 12th man on the field anywhere in California. This week that "One Town, One Tribe, One Team" 12th man on the field attitude and spirit will be in Hanford.
