The Dinuba Sentinel Community Monson-Sultana choirs celebrate another successful year
Photo contributed
The Monson-Sultana Concert Choir and 23 eighth grade musicians were honored at a recent awards ceremony, held last month. Many of the students have been singing with choir instructor Miss Pauls since kindergarten, making for a sentimental evening as they each received medals for their work while attending Monson-Sultana School.
They also performed many farewell songs and enjoyed a slide show reminiscing about their concerts over the years. Also included in the evening was a farewell tribute to retiring Monson-Sultana School teachers Mrs. Farhang, Mrs. Friesen and Mrs. Long.

Two eighth grade students from Monson-Sultana School will have the added benefit of having their own laptop as they go off to high school next year as they were recently awarded two new laptop computers through the Andrew Bedoya Memorial Scholarship Fund. Ninfa Valdovinos and David Camarillo, pictured, each received a laptop during their recent promotion ceremony. Presenting on behalf of the AB3 Foundation were Mary Lopez and Patricia Lopez.
"I would like to thank all those who support the AB3 Foundation," said Edward Bedoya. "You are the ones who help keep Andrew's legacy alive."
Exchange students need host families
Contributed
Host families are needed for four international students who will be attending Dinuba High School in the fall.
Non-profit World Link, Inc. secures families to host international high school students who earned a scholarship from the US Department of State. Only 900 applicants out of 40,000 are selected for the scholarship.
Through the organization, the students come to the US in mid-August and are here for 10 months. It provides leadership training for the students in public speaking and grant writing, for example.
Michelle Pattillo, local exchange coordinator, shares, “While the students are here on their exchange program, they are not only learning skills to better their communities back in their home countries, but our little communities are
benefiting greatly by their volunteering and community projects.”
For the students arriving in August, their host families need to be secured by July.
Jeren Tolegova, from Turkmenistan, said it best when she said, “People who I never knew, became my family for the rest of my life. Without them, my exchange would not be full of amazing memories.”
Hosting an international student can also benefit a host family. In addition to learning about other parts of the world, host families also add family members.
“It will change your life,” Ramon Herevia of Dinuba stated, “Hosting Jeren has been a life changing experience. She has enriched our family and is forever our daughter and my children’s older sister!” For more information, visit http://www. worldlinkinc.org and call Pattillo at 368-9470.
