The Kings River Conser- vancy currently maintains the 1.5-mile North River- side Trail that runs along the Kings River adjacent to the 34-acre Wildlife Management Area. The Sanger Unified School District brings sev- enth grade students to the North Riverside Trail on field trips to use as an outdoor na- ture classroom.
The second grant for $10,000 was awarded from the Central Valley Founda- tion to provide 32 interpre- tive trail signs along the North Riverside Trail.
The signs will help assist teachers with the courses and will be translated into Spanish and Hmong. In ad- dition, the general public can access the trail and use these signs to gain a greater

Reedley Middle College High team wins state FFA soil, land judging

Reedley Middle College High School’s FFA team won the soil and land evaluation judging contest on May 5 at the annual California State FFA Finals at Cal Poly University-San Luis Obispo.
Team members are Gloria Becerra, Yazmine Bedolla, Abigail Cabrera and Ivan Chavez. David Smoljan coached the team while Martin Castro served as an adviser.
The purpose of the land evaluation event is to provide education and awareness of the value of soils in production agriculture, envi- ronment and society. It and other events were evaluated by volunteers including Cal Poly fac-
ulty, staff and students, industry professionals, and community members.
Students at the state Finals competed in 20 other leadership and career development events throughout the day in categories includ- ing agronomy, dairy cattle, farm business man- agement, floriculture, forestry, livestock, nurs- ery landscape, marketing, vegetable crops, vet science and welding.
Event winners were announced at an awards ceremony hosted by Andrew Thulin, dean of the College of Agriculture’s Food and and Environmental Sciences. Winners will rep- resent California at the National FFA Conven- tion in October in Indianapolis, Ind.
Police arrest Crime Stoppers suspect

Police on June 17 arrested a Reedley resident who recent- ly was profiled in the monthly Crime Stoppers notice.
Derrik Balladarez, 20, car- ried a felony warrant of pos- sessing a dirk or dagger when he was taken into custody in the 600 block of East Spring-
field Avenue shortly before 10 a.m., according to police Sgt. Todd Lowery. Balladarez faced a charge of deterring an officer by threat or vio- lence when he allegedly tried to kick through the barricade window of the police vehicle.
In addition to the felony
charges, Balladarez was charged with misdemeanor counts of obstructing an of- ficer and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Balladerez remained in custody as of June 19, ac- cording to the Fresno County Jail’s booking records.
Richard went home

2018. Even with several health issues, he kept going until the end. He had a love for life and enjoyed ying, gol ng and shing over the years. Family was very important to Richard, especially his wife Darlene who was the love of his life. ey spent time with children and grandchildren, traveling, and were always on the go.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Elfrieda Neufeld, and sister Madie Butts. He is survived by his loving wife Darlene, son Michael, daughters Pam, Jennifer, Dana and Natalie, three sisters Judy, Ruth and Frieda, 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Richard will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends.
