The largest cross country meet of the regular season will feature over 70 teams and Dinuba High will be among the entrants when the 40th running of the Asics Clovis Invitational takes place on Saturday at Woodward Park.
The invitational is run on a 5K state meet course at Woodward as many runners will get to experience the course before the state championships in November.

without any injuries. It’s been quite a path to get here, but I’m optimistic we’re close to being able to start firing on all cylinders.”
The Emperors are currently ranked No. 2 in Division III behind Wasco and both teams will be running on Saturday morning. Both teams competed at the Beat the Heat Invitational on September 12 in Tehachapi. The Tigers edged DHS by a single point, 39-40. Wasco features one of the Division’s top runners, senior Sayra Raya.
Dinuba is led by juniors Jackie Delgado and Luz Diaz but the team will be without one of their top runners, Jasmin George, this weekend according

Spectators wanting to catch a glimpse of the race will have to arrive early in the morning at 7:15 a.m., while the boys race at 8 a.m.
The boys squad welcomes back Danny Araujo for Saturday. Araujo was one of the top runners from last year and this will be his first meet of the season, said Lichtenwaldt.
Araujo will be joining Jonathan Padilla to lead the Emperors.
“The race should give us a better idea of what we need to work on the rest of the season in order to put ourselves in the best chance to succeed come the middle of November,” Lichtenwaldt said. “I’m looking forward to it.”

Cavaliers use big plays to knock o  Emperors in a key CSL game, 21-7
Emperors are now 4-2 after having their four-game win streak come to an end.
It also marked the first time in nine years the Cavs had defeated the Emperors.
Coach Kevin Scharton said the team didn’t execute plays when they needed to the most.
“Penalties set us back and we had a touchdown called back,” Scharton said. “We just couldn’t get the ball to bounce our way.”
The Cavailiers used another big play to increase their lead to 14-0 when quarterback Erick Dragt escaped a pass rush and found Rening along the sidelines for a 71-yard scoring play.

The Orosi High girl’s tennis team started last week strong but towards the end, the Cardinals’ momentum came to a stop as they were overwhelmed by visiting Coalinga in a 8-1 loss Thursday afternoon in Orosi.
OHS will now face the top-two teams in West Sequoia League play including Firebaugh. Results of that match were unavaible at press time.
The Eagles are the best team the Cardinals will face, according to coach Nick Cabatutan.
“They have beaten everybody,” he said. “And then we play Dos Palos who are right behind Firebaugh in WSL standings.”

Chavez cracked the top-10 in a time of 12:10.00 just .20 tenths of a second ahead of Parlier’s Joshua Gomez for 10th place.
Hernandez was 16th in 12:39 and Garcia placed 21st in 12:46.20.
In the junior varsity race, Marco Garcia was timed in 13:37 for seventh overall.
On September 18 at the Douglas Rudolf Invitational, the girls team finished 14th overall with 373 points. Rodriguez covered the 3.1 mile Mooney Grove Park course in 24:02.89 for 59th place and was followed by Mondragon (72nd, 25:08.83) and Tejeda (113th, 29:54.72). Concluding the group scoring were Viloria, who was 123rd in 31:08.89, and Mercado placed 128th in 32:45.76.
The boys team was 24th overall with 665 points. Garcia was the top runner with a recorded time of 19:24.81 for 97th place. Giron had a time of 20:54.17 for 125th and Hernandez was timed in 21:35.09 for 139th. Garcia was 169th in 25:59.56 and Contreras came in 172nd in 32:29.73.
Orosi’s next race will be tomorrow afternoon at the Sierra Pacific Milky Way Invitational 5K at Sierra Pacific High School. The meet will draw 15 teams from the section.

It only took a matter of seconds for Central Valley Christian to set the tone Friday evening.
The Cavaliers Jaalen Rening took the opening kickoff 95-yards for a touchdown, stunning visiting Dinuba and in the process helped CVC to a 21-7 win in a Central Sequoia League game in Visalia.
CVC won its fifth straight game, improving to 5-1 overall while the
Quarterback Josh Magaña completed 35 of 52 pass attempts for 257 yards against CVC on Friday.

A busy week came to a close on a good note for the Orosi High cross country team.
The Cardinals participated in the Golden West Invitational on Friday as the girls team placed 20th out of 24 teams with 538 points.
Fabiola Rodriguez covered the 5,000 meter course in 22 minutes, 34.51 seconds placing her 59th overall. Cintia Mondragon was 91st in 23:46.28 and Daniela Tejeda had a time of 26:12.74 for 134th. The Cardinals’ other runners were Gerve Viloria, who was 168th in 31:29.37, and Esby Mercado was 174th in 32:53.30.
The boys team had 779 points finishing 26th out of 31 teams.
Nicholas Chavez had the teams fastest time in 19:02.63 for 137th overall. Sinoel Garcia was 13 spots behind Chavez in 150th and had a time of 19:23.92. David Hernandez crossed the finish line in 155th in 19:37.97, while Gilberto Giron was timed in 19:52.37 for 160th and Marco Garcia was 200th in 22:43.44.
At the Orange Cove Titan Cross Country Invitational, held on September 26, Rodriguez was fourth overall in 14:40. Tejeda and Mercado were 13th and 17th with times of 17:05

Senior running back Jerry Huerta rushes for 3 TD’s in 43-12 win
a 64-yarder in the third quarter as the Cardinals defeated host Riverdale, 42-13, in a West Sequoia League game on Friday.
Orosi improves to 4-2 overall while the Cowboys fall to 3-3.
Coach Ben White said he was glad to have his leading rusher back.
“Getting Huerta back was a good thing,” said White.
White said that there were changes in the offensive line that also proved to be positive.
“We changed our offensive line personnel a little bit and we were getting some good blocks,” White said. “Fullback Fredi Arciga also had a good
game for us.”
Ahead 14-0 at the half, the Cardinals
increased their lead to on a short touchdown run by Ismael Perez and a two-point conversion run by Huerta made the score 22-0 with 7 minutes, 28 seconds.
Riverdale responded on its ensuing possession with a 21-yard scoring pass play. However, the ensuing two-point conversion attempt by the Cowboys was no good.
