Nathan Carrion and Elijah Mayberry were all smiles as were their West squad teammates and coaches after a convincing 121-90 victory over the East in the 48th Annual City/County basketball all-star game held at Fresno City College on Saturday.
Carrion finished the game with 15 points while Mayberry added 11 as the Dinuba High standouts closed out their prep careers on a good note.
“It’s our last game wearing Dinuba across our chest, so it feels good to go out with a bang,” Carrion said.
Mayberry set the tone early by scoring the game’s first points with a 3-pointer. The pace of the game heavily favored the West, who broke the contest wide open with a 33-15 second quarter advantage.
The West was coached by McLane’s Thomas Williams, who relied on a balance scoring attack led by David Thomas of Madera South. Thomas poured in 25 points and teammate Jasmit Briana of Coalinga added 24. Seven West players reached double figures as they closed out the game outscoring the East 37-22 in the fourth quarter.
The East was led by Fresno Pacific- bound Jeremy Ray of Kingsburg who finished with 25 points.
Both Mayberry and Carrion agreed the experience of getting to practice and playing against some of the area’s best in an all-star game was as advertised.
