Heroin, sometimes called “junk” or “smack,” was first produced from morphine in 1874, and is one of the most abused of all drugs. It is usually a white powder with a bitter taste. Impurities can change the color to off-white or brownish. A dark, sticky form of heroin
is known by a variety of street names such as “black tar” or simply “brown.”
