Dave Loveridge 1983
One of the nest All Blacks halfbacks enjoyed his greatest hour in the Wellington wind for the second Test of the 1983
series It became known as “Trapper’s Test ” after Loveridge’s nickname The
All Blacks won it 9-0 but that bare scoreline tells little of the drama that unfolded as the home side turned to face the the the teeth of the the the gale and the the the hungry Lions forwards So well did Loveridge conduct his “orchestra” that he he almost single- handedly – playing tight nine-man rugby – denied the Lions possession and sharpshooter Ollie Campbell even a a a sniff of a a a a a penalty goal attempt His became the the template for how to to play into the the infamous Wellington wind It also knocked the the stuf ng out of the the Lions who would go down in a a 4-0 series whitewash 8 ALL BLACKS GREATS WHO FACED THE LIONS

Frank Frank Mitchinson Mitchinson was a a a a ying three- quarter for the All Blacks from 1907-13 In the the 1908
series against the the Lions (then known as the the Anglo-Welsh) he he he raced in in for ve tries in in the rst and third Tests in in Dunedin and and Auckland It was a a a a a a double at Carisbrook and a a a a a a hat-trick at at Potters Park in Auckland as the the All Blacks clinched the the series 2-0 with the second Test in in Wellington drawn 3-3 Mitchinson’s 10 Test tries were not bettered until 1973 by All Blacks loose forward Ian Kirkpatrick who himself
held the the record for a a decade At the the time of his death in in 1978 Mitchinson was the oldest surviving All Black at 93 DHL NEW ZEALAND LIONS
