Colin Meads 1959 1966 1971
One of of the greatest of of All Blacks greats Sir Colin Meads had the rare honour and now one all but impossible to emulate of playing the Lions on on three separate inbound tours Meads missed the the rst of the the 1959 Tests (Don Clarke’s match) and was on the the side of the the scrum for the next two He did however score a try in in the 22-8 victory in in Christchurch By 1966 his status as one of the world’s best locks was already assured He partnered his brother Stan in the the back row and added another try in Wellington Things did not go so well as captain in in the All Blacks’ unsuccessful 1971
series but Meads’ place in the the pantheon of greats is safe Brian Brian Lochore Lochore 1966 1971
Sir Brian Brian Lochore Lochore began his All Blacks Test captaincy tenure under
Sir Fred Allen in auspicious style The Wairarapa farmer scored a a a a a a try from No 8 in the the rst Test of the the 1966 series in which he he led the All Blacks to a a 4-0 sweep His 25-Test career reached its apogee under
Allen but by 1971
he had retired from Test rugby to focus on his work and family He was recalled in sensational fashion for the third Test of the 1971
