Nepal earthquake disaster charity event
There’s a saying ‘’Charity begins at home’’. We tried to put this into practice as soon as we heard about the Nepal earthquake. The QARANC itself has a long history of providing support to the people who are in desperate need and we are very proud to be a part of it.
On the 25th of April 2015 a massive earthquake of 7.9 Richter scale hit Nepal leaving thousands of people dead, tens of thousands injured and millions homeless. This tragedy left many children in an unimaginable situation, and many without parents. The whole nation was in a chaotic situation with no hope. Nepal has suffered a lot in the past and the earthquake added further to this situation.
We, the HCA course 01/15, could feel the need of the people in Nepal and were eager to organise an event to help raise funds to recover Nepal from the brutal devastation left by the cruel Earthquake. Despite a very tight training schedule and with the help of the instructor team of the HCA School, we put together ideas to run this Charity event.
In the early morning of 30th April 2015 the event took place outside the Raffaeli Theatre in DMS Whittington. The permanent staff were so generous
to contribute a significant amount of home baked cakes, various prizes for the tombola, while hot and cold refreshments were kindly provided by the Harden Centre. A Gurkha curry was another attraction of the day.
The event began around 1000hrs starting with a cake stall and tombola. TRX, an amazing piece of kit, was generously donated by our course OiC Capt Katie Hildred. Our course managers Sgt Johnston Plumb and Cpl Richard Nolan worked very hard to gather many attractive prizes from local businesses. The number of people who attended the event was very impressive regardless of their busy schedule. The Gurkha curry was served from 1200 onwards. Sgt Rai from Phase 3, Cpl Thapa from the Armoury
and Pte Dhawol from our HCA course put a lot of effort in to preparing this scrumptious curry while the hospitality of other members in our team serving the food was without question. It is proven that how generous people can be when it comes to Charity.
We managed to collect a total of £2138.00 which was then gifted to Disasters Emergency Committee. We want to thank everyone who was involved, directly or indirectly, in the event which aimed to rebuild all those shattered dreams, the event which aimed to wipe those tears in the eyes of millions, and the event which aimed to rebuild all those fallen bricks in rubble to homes again.
