 12 CRUISING REPORTS
CRUISING IN 2020 AND LOOKING FORWARD TO 2021!
Mayflower 400 topped the RSYC Cruising Calendar in 2020 but was scuppered by COVID-19.The clash between the two resulted in the cancellation of the Grand Parade
of Sail, which would have been a spectacular show on Southampton Water in tribute to our rich maritime history.
The Mayor of Southampton presented the RSYC (Laurie Bates and Graham Tracey) and RNVRYC (David Monks) with medals from M300. One was presented to the Mayor of Dartmouth and another to the Lord Mayor of Plymouth to commemorate the sailing of the Mayflower in 1620 as
part of the summer cruise. The return
to Southampton with signed documents closed the circle. We are proud that this is one of the very few M400 events that came through the COVID-19 crisis that dominated 2020.
Lockdown? What lockdown? Though our scheduled events were somewhat rearranged through the summer, we did get a few rallies through the Health and Safety regulations.
Trinity’s @ The Lightship, formerly known as Mary Mouse 2 in Gosport, hosted our first cruise followed by dinner in Port Solent. Lunch at anchor in Osborne Bay ensured appropriate distancing, but it was a delight to be out on the water at last, and in the sunshine!
After a wet, windy and cold August, September made up for it with clear skies and warm weather. Bembridge provided the beach for the annual BBQ, boules and kite challenges while Island Harbour provided an excellent visit to The Breeze.
We are looking forward to the NEW NORMAL for 2021(whatever that will be), although we will still be subject to restrictions for some time. Dates and
details will continually be updated via
the fortnightly bulletins, and RSYC Website. Do not miss out and sign up with membership@rsyc.org.uk.
Thanks for your support through the challenging 2020 Cruising season. We hope to make 2021 the best we can. Please help us make Cruising what you want it to be and let us know of any ideas you may have for Cruising in 2021 and beyond. Please also help by joining the Cruising Sub- committee!
