Gardner’s Enigma, chased all the way by John Danby’s Fizz. In Class 3 - the double handed boats - Andy Horwood’s Asante won every race and therefore also the series. Among all three classes combined Jackdaw came first with Fizz and Enigma following behind.
With the Winter Series behind us there was one race still to run. Our Charity Pursuit race is run each year in aid of the Commodore’s chosen charity - this year
the RSYC Trust. Scheduled for 10th November this race coincided with the second lockdown and had to be postponed. Once this lockdown was relaxed, we found the first decent looking racing Sunday (6th December) and called everyone up at short notice to see if they were available. Enough of them still had boats at the ready and a few more were able to join in as well. By
a miracle, the sun came out and a decent breeze blew so that, despite the cold, all had an enjoyable finish to a very strange season. This time Fizz won the race with Jackdaw and Tigris in second and third. A feature of this race is an extra prize for the best fancy- dressed boat - won this year by Jackdaw with a splendid Santa and his Elf on the helm.
The last COVID casualty of the year was our Annual Prize Giving. First it was turned from a full prize giving into a COVID- compliant themed lunch on 14th November and then due to Lockdown 2.0, postponed until 16 January. Unfortunately, Lockdown 3.0 starting from 5th January and ongoing means this event has been postponed indefinitely.
Throughout the year the pandemic has not only affected our competitors but also our Race Management Team. Restrictions
