Thrapston Sports Association had discussed holding a Beer Festival for a number of years but never got round to it as they had enough to do running the Sports Club. So in 2018 a few people who were on the Sports Association committee set up a sub-committee and involved members of the local sporting teams. And, Thrapston Beer Festival was born!
Favourite thing about the festival? Seeing so many people who live in Thrapston and the surrounding villages coming along and supporting the event.
What drinks are on offer? We have 17 beers, as well as 12 ciders, 14 gins and 2 cocktails!
How have you seen tastes change? People are more adventurous and ready to try new drinks. Gin is popular as well as all the flavoured ciders.
Any unusual tipples you offer? We are keeping our line up a surprise for the event but last year we had a Jaffa Cake gin which went
down really well!
What’s was your best seller last year? Nene
Valley Brewery’s Release the Chimps was a very popular one, as well as the mango cider and raspberry and elderflower gin! There’s lots of flavours for all different taste palettes.
Do you have ciders too? We certainly do have ciders available! This year is our biggest cider variety, with 12 options available.
What happens to any profit you make? We donate to local causes, charities and the sporting teams who play at Chancery Lane. Plus, we keep an amount to put on next year’s event.
Most challenging moment? Running out of beer after the first night at last year’s event! The breweries we were working with were on hand and sent us a delivery the next morning,
so no-one went dry.
How many people do you expect through the gates? We never know as it’s a free event all
