D RIFLES COMPANY
and OP TORAL. This has been set against a declared main effort around recruiting in support of FR2020.
FR2020
the company have also mobilised to support the Commonwealth Games
Games.
Training
Annual training took place in Cyprus in September 2013 with
a composite company group from the battalion deploying on EX LION
5RRF
The Company has had another busy year with highlights including annual training
in Cyprus, two periods of joint live firing between our Mortars and 3 RIFLES, and deployments of Riflemen to Kenya and Uganda as well as mobilisations for the Commonwealth Games
Operations
The intended
movement of company
headquarters to Durham is currently ‘on hold’ pending the re-location of battalion headquarters from Durham to Newcastle. However this has not hindered recruitment with the company recruiting team led by
Sjt McKenzie, working very closely with the Regular RST, bringing on board 36 recruits in the year to July, with as many attested
for service in that period than the whole
of the previous year. This encouraging performance must be sustained if FR2020 is to be a success, and there is much hard work ongoing to increase the footprint of the company in both Durham and Yorkshire.
STAR 8. Despite a very real chance of
a last minute postponement due to the political situation in Syria, and some frantic staff work to prepare for a fall back option in Barry Budden, the exercise went ahead and was a great success. Almost all of
the two weeks was spent in the field with
D Company providing the majority of the company headquarters and more than a full rifle platoon. Two Sections joined us from
3 RIFLES and integrated into the company for the duration, strengthening the growing relationship with our paired battalion.
3 soldiers from the company are currently mobilised with 2 RIFLES preparing for deployment on OP TORAL later in the year and 6 soldiers from the company have also mobilised to support the Commonwealth
