An education which brings out the best in each child
We meet the Head and parents at Wycliffe College and discover why this thriving day and boarding school is so popular with Forces Families.
Mrs Margie Burnet Ward, Wycliffe’s enthusiastic and inspiring Head explains the ethos. “We provide a distinctive heritage, academic excellence and an encouraging atmosphere. This brings out the best in every child and creates a happy, welcoming environment.”
Set in a 54-acre campus, with views across the Stroud Valley, the elegant main house is surrounded by first class modern
facilities and extensive sports pitches.
is within easy reach of the major Army
and RAF bases across the South West. The airports of Heathrow, Bristol and Birmingham are within easy reach of the school too, which is convenient for families based overseas.
In the Prep School, pupils benefit from a broad and creative curriculum with supportive teachers. The full choice of subjects continues as they progress onto the S.enior School at 13 and pursue an impressive array of GCSE and A level options and achieve excellent results.
In fact, Wycliffe has recently celebrated being one of the top schools in the country for ‘Value Added’ – ensuring that all children fulfil their academic potential.
Wycliffe educates over 700 boys and girls from two to eighteen years in total. Importantly for Forces
families, there are over
300 boarders across
the Prep and Senior
Schools for new pupils
to make friends with.
It is always an overriding concern as a parent to know your children are safe, happy and in a good school – Wycliffe has successfully achieved this for our family. Billy, Emily’s younger brother,
will also be joining as a boarder in Year
3 this September.
We have complete confidence that he will be welcomed into the Wycliffe family with open arms and we know he will feel happy and secure.
We have also been very impressed with the Learning Support Centre, which has proved
to be effective and goes out of its way to meet the needs of every pupil. At Wycliffe, as a parent you really feel that it is ‘the children that matter most’, which is why our family are fully behind the school.”

It
“Emily started at
Wycliffe Preparatory
School in September
2011 as a boarder in
Year 3. We chose Wycliffe because of its family atmosphere and the ethos of the Head, Mr Palmer; “if a child is happy then they are able to learn.” The pastoral care is second to none and, for Emily, Wycliffe has become her second home. We have seen her grow in confidence as well as independence since joining the school and much of this is attributed to the care and guidance of a great team of support staff, who are always there to encourage and help.
