RIFLESSPORTS Rifles Yacht Club Regatta 2014
The 2014 Rifles Yacht Club Annual Regatta at Sea View Yacht Club (SVYC) on the Isle of Wight from 16th to 17th June saw 9 crews enjoy two good days of sailing. The weather was fair; overcast with a good breeze on Day 1 and sun, warmth and a strong wind on Day 2. It was disappointing that 2nd, 3rd and 5th Battalions felt unable to find a crew of 3 sailors but participants, augmented for the third year by 2 x crews from BUOTC, engaged in healthy and humorous competition. Fortunately the 6 RIFLES crew after some sailing courses at JSATC reduced the
7RIFLES with its professional crew, though placed third overall behind RHQ B and BUOTC 1, still managed to outpace others to take the Best Battalion Prize with 4RIFLES finishing runners up. BUOTC 1(Boys) took the Best Non-Battalion prize for the second year running while the 4th Battalion encumbered by the age of the Second-in-Command narrowly failed to take the Best Placed “Young” crew from the 1st Battalion.
A word of Thanks must go to David Quekett and his “crew” for their sublime management of Race
planning, coordination and execution from the Bridge. It is hoped that he will lead the event again in 2015. Thank you David.
2015
Readers are asked to note that the 2015 Regatta dates are confirmed as Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th June. All Battalions and ‘sailors’ at ERE are requested to put these dates into their FOE 2015.

risk of continuing the Greek Galley tactics of ramming RHQ boats. Yet there was nothing more humorous than watching the “professional” crew drift the wrong way and ultimately into the only immovable object in that area of the Solent: humorous that is until the bill for unstopping the mast and knocking the weather data collector out was received! This did not stop the Regatta Dinner, again held in the Sea View Yacht Club dining room, from being a wonderful success.
