The 2014 Band Concert at Edward Brooks Bararcks
The following deaths within the local regimental family have been reported since they were last published.
L/Cpl Colin (Shane) Clark (23530620). Ex Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry and 1GJ (43rd & 52nd). Served November 1957 to November 1960 and spent time in Cyprus. Died 11th February 2013.
William Hawtin (5379795) Ex 4th Bn Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. Died August 2013.
T M L (Tom) Kelley. Went to Normandy with 7th Royal Norfolks. Transferred to 1st Bn (43rd) Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry at Falaise in August 1944. Served with A Coy until June 1945 then joined 2nd Bn (52nd) in Palestine. Demobbed from Cowley Barracks in 1947. Died 14th August 2013.
Leonard Hopkins. Ex Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry National Serviceman. Died 6th September 2013.
Frederick (Rico) De Angeli. Ex Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry and 7th Bn Parachute Regiment during WW2. Wounded in action. Died September 2013.
George T Davess (5381724). Ex 1st Buckinghamshire Battalion (TA), Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. Enlisted 1st May 1933. Went to France with the 1st Bucks as part of the BEF 18th January 1940. Returned to UK and part of HQ Coy December 1940. Demobbed 16th February 1946. Died 29th September 2013.
Maj J (John) Beerman (503699). Ex 3 GJ, 3RGJ, 4RGJ & 5RGJ. Enlisted 3rd March 1960 and served until 1999. Known as a
very good regimental boxer. In later years John was Regimental Quartermaster of 5RGJ and was heavily involved in what became the Rifles Officers Oxford Club. After retirement he was Secretary & Treasurer of the 43rd & 52nd OCA, Treasurer of the RGJA Oxford Branch and looked after the day to day running of the Regimental Museum at the Slade. Died October 2013.
L/Cpl W D (Walter) Wells (5393465). Ex 1st Bn (43rd) Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. Served in Normandy as Section Leader of 18 (Carrier) Pl, D Coy until badly wounded by enemy artillery fire at Bougy at the end of July 1944 and returned to the UK. Died 30th October 2013.
Col P E (Peter) Gerahty. Ex 2nd Bn (52nd Airborne) Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. Took part in Op Varsity. Later served with the 1st Bn and commanded the 4th Bn in Oxford. Died 15th November 2013.
Maj R F (Roy) Fullick (277452). Initially served with 8th Bn
Rifle Brigade in the ranks from late 1941 and as a 2/Lt (Wartime Emergency Commission) before picking up a regular commission in the Ox & Bucks Lt Infantry. He served with them in N.W. Europe and

Palestine until 1952. After a staff job in London he spent time with 2nd Bn The Parachute Regiment some of it in Cyprus from 1955 until his resignation on 11 January 1958. Died 26th December 2013.
B J (Bert) Sharp (7946854). Ex 7th Bn Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. Enlisted November 1941 and served in North Africa and Italy before becoming a POW. Died 5th January 2014.
J P (John) Jenkins. Served with the Buckinghamshire Battalion of the Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry in WW2. Died January 2014 aged 96.
Mrs Anne Garcia. Widow of Capt I R C Greenlees and later Capt E F Garcia both of whom served with the Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. Died 19 January 2014.
2/Lt M (Mike) Bullock. Ex 1st Bn Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry in Cyprus 1956-8. Commanded Machine Gun Platoon when they were issued with Ferret Armoured Cars. Died 4 February 2014 aged 80.
CSM L J (Joe) Haydon (22010885). Ex 1st Bn Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, 1GJ and RGJ. Pl Sgt No1 Pl (A Coy) 1956. Officers Mess Sgt 58, Mortar Pl C/Sgt 59-61, CQMS 1963/68, Junior Soldiers CSM at the Rifle Depot Winchester from 1968 until retirement in 1969. Died 28 February 2014.
Maj W A (Walter) Eberstadt OBE (237409). Initially served
with the Pioneer Corps from Sept 1940 to June 1942. Then commissioned into the Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. He served with the 5th Bn and 2nd Bucks Bn in the UK before fighting in Normandy, as a Platoon Commander with the 1st Worcesters, where he was wounded in August 1944. On recovery he joined a Psychological Warfare Unit within 21st Army Group working at Radio Luxembourg and then Radio Hamburg. Died at home in New York 26th February 2014.
R S (Reginald) Ellis (14575851). Enlisted Gen Service Corps, transferred into Queens Royal West Surrey Regt and then into 1st
Bn Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry on 3 August 1943. Wounded 20 July 1944. Discharged 26 April 1945. Died March 2014.
Sir Brian L Goswell. Served with the Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry from 1954 to 1957 and went on to have a very successful business career in the City of London. Died 31 March 2014 aged 78.
F (Fred) Butler. Ex Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. Saw service with the 4th Bn and with the 7th Bn in North Africa & Italy during WW2. He was also seconded to the Suffolk Regiment. Died April 2014.
