Homecoming Parades – 4RIFLES
Planning the Homecoming Parade of 4RIFLES following their last Op HERRICK Tour was an interesting experience for the Salisbury Office. Veterans of 4 previous parades, the End Of Tour date changes, the VIP GO/NO GO programmes and time and space constraints in
Close to the Market Square where the large crowd saw the Mayor, Councillor Penny Brown, and the Lord Lieutenant for Wiltshire, Mrs Sarah Troughton, present Afghanistan Operational Service Medals to
mounting a significant
event over two sites,
Salisbury and Bulford,
exercised the need
for considerable tact.
But as often the case,
it was “alright on the
night” – in fact it was a
highly successful parade executed before a considerable audience of Salisbury citizens on a bright December day.
The Battalion marched from the Cathedral
before the Rifles Band & Bugles led the parade round the city – twice: the second pass at
the double. Following
a Civic Reception
in the Guildhall, the Battalion recovered to Bulford where HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, in
the second parade of the day, presented medals to the remainder of the Battalion.
