The Rifles Office, Shrewsbury
Shrewsbury Branch
As always the Shrewsbury Branch would like to take this opportunity to thank E Company who host our thriving Light Infantry and Rifles Association. We are very grateful to the PSAO Capt K J Mahoney MBE and CSjt (QPSI) Decca Winter and his team for all the advice, help and guidance that they give to the Branch throughout the
year. There are 142 paid up members and the Branch welcomes members from all the Services and other Regiments, plus friends of the Regiment, many of whom, have worked or been trained at Copthorne Barracks.
Again this year, we have had our Spring, Summer and Christmas Dances which were all sold out. The entertainment, wine and food, as always, were of a very high standard and of course the highlight of the evenings being the Grand Raffle.
The Branch as you would expect had a fantastic turnout at the Reunion Weekend; the weather held – just! - and an outstanding few days were enjoyed by all. The Branch TOMBOLA stall for this year was handed over to Doc Halliday and his KSLI Memorial Appeal Team and £774 was raised.
We continue to support and play our part in the various events organized by the Rifles Office and the Town authorities. Events include the Light Infantry Reunion Weekend, Mayor’s Sunday, Remembrance Sunday, Shrewsbury Schools Open Days, and the County Wide Association Dinner Night.
The Branch Chairman went with his son Cpl Darren Crook to watch his grandson Jnr Rfn Jack Crook pass out at the Army Foundation College Harrogate in August.
As always I would like to thank the Shrewsbury Branch Committee for all the hard work that they do, for the benefit of their Branch members.

The Branch remains small, meeting the
last Tuesday of each month. We recently welcomed potential new LI members Steve Webb of 3LI and his
son Craig who had
served with the Royal
Artillery and Colin Jones
again 3LI. All live locally
but did not know of
the Branch’s existence.
They informed us of
other LI members living
in the area and would spread the word, so the Branch looks forward to the possibility
of increasing its numbers. We have not held any formal meetings for a number of years now and the branch no longer has
Vet. So we not so old Vets enjoy their repeated stories and experiences. Branch members support events organised by
the Shrewsbury Rifles Office and some
get to the Telford Branch meetings and social functions. To date we have visited the Shrewsbury Regimental Museum and the Welsh Guards Museum at Oswestry; our 2014 day out will see us visiting the Armed Forces Medical Services Centre at Whittington Barracks, Lichfield Staffordshire and the Staffordshire Regimental Museum.
