The annual inter schools’ Bisley competition, The Ashburton, fol- lowed in July. We have been steadily rebuilding our target shoot- ing base over the past few years and we able to field an VIII for the Ashburton match itself which proved a valuable experience for the team going forward. The team came back with some silver- ware winning the Bermuda Trophy for the second year running.
The RAF section had a successful year with numbers increas- ing to create a first-class A Flight. The Section is fortunate to be conveniently located within easy reach of RAF Cranwell for air experience flying, and RAF Wittering for leadership train- ing. Cadets are fully briefed on the Grob Tutor training aircraft, including how to eject from the aircraft.
A busy programme is planned for 2020 including an RAF Air Cadets adventure training weekend, and applications for the Na- tional Aerospace camp in August and Summer camp in Cyprus. In September Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Nigel Sudborough CB OBE DL carried out the Biennial Inspection on behalf of MoD. He was impressed by the enthusiasm of the cadets as he watched them carrying out a typical afternoon’s training which resulted in a favourable report.

The King’s School CCF at Grantham have had another ex- citing year of training and leadership development. Our September intake brought nearly 70 new cadets who wished to participate in the CCF ethos. Uniform fitting and drill pre- pared them for the Annual Remembrance Sunday parade in Grantham, two minutes silence and then the wreath laying was undertaken. We were invited for a second year by the Western Front Association to participate in London on the 11th Novem- ber 2019 Armistice Day at the Cenotaph. Capt Peter Dunlop and SSgt (Instructor) Pulfrey ensured a senior selection of cadets marched and paraded in front of the Cenotaph, two wreaths were laid on behalf of the school and the CCF, Capt Peter Dunlop had the honour of laying the Army’s wreath.
Earlier in the year we staged our Exercise MAYPOLE, living under improvised shelters cooking 24-hour ration pack food, marching on bearings, and all things fieldcraft orientated were practiced at Prince William of Gloucester Barracks. A dinner night was held with our honoured VIP guest the Lord Lieuten- ant, together with our commanding officer Mr Simon Pickett (Headmaster) prizes and presentations were made to our Sixth Form leavers.
Then it was off to Summer camp at Beckingham, for 50 cadets organised by 7 (Infantry) Brigade 7.62 mm target rifle shooting introduction for our senior cadets, Challenging activities fol- lowed, cycling, canoeing, assault courses, and 24 hr exercise, not
