at Grantham Detachment, organised a trip to The Defence Ani- mal Centre at Melton Mowbray which was greatly enjoyed by both cadets and adult staff.
In August, the Squadron deployed to Swynnerton in Stafford- shire for the highlight of the cadet training year – Annual Camp. With roughly 120 cadets attending, the Squadron was the largest sub unit on camp where the cadets enjoyed a range of activities including field training exercises, adventurous training, range work, signals and first aid cadres. During the course of annual camp amongst the Squadron’s successes were: Best 1 Star Ca- det, Cdt Naomi Solomon (Grantham Detachment); Best 3 Star Cadet, Cdt Cpl Oscar Rowntree (Bourne Detachment); Best 4 Star Cadet, Cdt SSgt Matt Henderson; Best Detachment, Gran- tham (RL) Detachment; Community Action Trophy, Cdt LCpl Hughes (Sleaford Detachment); and Champion Company was 2 Squadron.
During Annual Camp, Cdt SSgt Lola Slipper of Sleaford Detach- ment was promoted to the appointment of Cdt Squadron Ser- geant Major. Not being a unit that rests on its laurels, on return from Annual Camp at the County Swimming Competition the Squadron won Junior Girls, Senior Girls and Overall Winners Trophies! The Inter Detachment “Squadron Sergeant Major’s” Trophy was held in September with Bourne Detachment being crowned as the worthy winners. During the month of October another combined training weekend was held at Beckingham with a wide range of successes being recorded by individual ca- dets from the squadron.
During the October half-term holiday, four cadets from the Squadron, Cdt SSgt Sam Hilder, Cdt SSgt Matt Henderson, Cdt

SSgt George Craft and Cdt Sgt Phillipa Bullock from Bourne and Stamford Detachments were attending a Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Expedition at Halton Training Camp near Lancaster. During their journey, at Manchester Piccadilly Rail- way Station they administered lifesaving first aid to an uncon- scious casualty and earned themselves “Praiseworthy First Aid Certificates”.
In the early part of November our detachments all participated in their local Royal British Legion Remembrance Parades with many cadets also assisting with the sale of Poppies. In late No- vember, approximately 80 junior cadets from the Squadron at- tended County “Basic Camp” in order to complete their ACF Basic Training. December is traditionally the “Party Season” within our detachments and a variety of social events includ- ing barbeques, ten pin bowling, Chinese banquets and outdoor activity days were enjoyed by cadets and staff alike. It’s not all fun and frivolity though Stamford Detachment also deployed to provide admin support and stewards for the Stamford Santa Fun Run!
Having just returned from the Christmas break, the Squadron has started the New Year off where we ended the old year – in January 2020 at the county football competition the Squadron won the trophies for Junior Boys, Senior Boys, Senior Girls and overall winners! The Squadron is going from strength to strength, at least two of our detachments are up to full strength and now have waiting lists to join! Recruiting of Adult Volun- teers is going well but there is always room for more! Any serv- ing, or former members of the Regiment are always welcome at our detachments – you never know we might even be able to persuade you to put uniform on again!
