Iam pleased as the new chairman of the Royal Lancers Museum Trust to be able to report that I have taken over a very solid operation. I have a lot to be grateful for and thanks and acknowl- edgement are due to Col Charrington, Lt Col Everard, Brig Hur- rell and the trustees who have worked so hard.
The strands of our complex regimental histories have been wo- ven tightly together and expertly displayed at Derby City Muse- um and Thoresby Hall under the knowledgeable and hardwork- ing direction of Capt Mick Holtby and Mrs Angela Tarnowski and their teams of highly committed volunteers – without whom the enterprise would quickly fail.
Our displays are good, stuffed as they are with our finest heritage materials and well worth a visit by anyone with crossed lances figuratively tattooed on their heart – or literally tattooed any- where – but we need to pay attention to our sprawling reserve collection.
Are we looking after it properly? Where are the gaps we need to fill? An important project on that is underway. At the same time, a museum needs to keep collecting or it becomes stale. Ask yourself: what is the totemic object from your time at Regimen- tal duty? For many, it will be an armoured vehicle. For others, a photograph, an item of uniform, a map, a weapon, something picked up somewhere hot and dusty and stuffed into a day sack. We need these objects and their stories and we will actively be seeking them out, as well as snapping up historic objects that are offered to us, or come up for sale. Do let me have your ideas via HHQ: if you have something to donate with a story attached, you will be making a massive contribution to our shared heritage.
Finally, this is the year when some of our digitised archives go online. As a research resource it will be outstanding. As a time- sump to exchange for those moments watching improbable feats on Insta, it will be an unbeatable force for good.

To coincide with the Derby Reunion, Museum Day was host- ed by Derby Museum & Art Gallery. This was well attended by members of the Regimental Association and the Mayor and Mayoress of Derby, Cllr Mike Carr and Mrs Cilla Carr. Presenta- tions covered the First World War, the service of B Squadron 9/12L in Bosnia in 1992-93 and an update from the Regiment on current activities. Past and present Lancers are very welcome to attend this annual event.

In the summer dozens of regimental archives and photograph albums were collected from Derby and taken to London for dig- itisation as part of the LIBOR First World War digitisation pro- ject which is being managed by the Army Museum Ogilby Trust.
The Regimental Museum has a rich and varied collection of First World War material which is not currently accessible due to their fragile condition. It is hoped that the digitised copies of
