Atruly fitting way to bid farewell to Brigadier Andrew Hughes OBE, as he relinquished his role as our first Colonel of the Regiment. On the 8th – 9th June 2019, the biannual Regimental Weekend was held at Cambrai Lines. It was wonderful to host our valued Old Comrades and more recent Ex-Lancers through- out the weekend, who enjoyed the event alongside the serving Regiment and our families. It was a great opportunity to have some healthy competition, socialise together, remember our past, and generally celebrate everything that it means to be a Lancer. A truly fitting way to bid farewell to Brig Andrew Hughes OBE, as he relinquished his role as our first Colonel of the Regiment.
The weekend kicked off at the Garrison athletics track with the Squadrons showcasing their physical prowess on the track and field. This was complimented by an array of magnificent stands with a Lancer version of a fairground or village fete springing up around the venue. Delicious food and drink were enjoyed by
all from some of Yorkshire’s finest vendors. The Welfare Depart- ment outdid itself with a spectacular inflatable assault cause, children’s entertainment zone and The Great Lancer Bake Off competition. Even the early rain did not dissuade our hardy young future-Lancers from getting stuck in on the inflatables and once the sun came out the hoards multiplied even further. The Officers’ Mess and Warrant Officers’ & Sergeants’ Mess pro- duced a joint display to showcase some of their more interesting and remarkable pieces of silver and other historical property and the Squadrons hosted stands to demonstrate the equipment and techniques of our professional lives to our families.
The highlight for all must be the famous ‘Chain of Command’ race; an inter Squadron relay with every rank represented se- quentially from Trooper to Officer Commanding. It was all square with some impressive prowess shown in the lower ranks until the final couple of legs. Capt Jibb especially drew the admiration of
