REGIMENTAL JOURNAL OF THE ROYAL LANCERS (QUEEN ELIZABETHS’ OWN)
Cpl Sahai deployed with the Royal Navy for six months. As part of this, he attended and passed both sea survival and firefight- ing training with the Navy which allowed him to board HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH, the RN Flagship. The ship was crewed by 1,300 personnel, but at its full potential manning it could go up to 1,600 personnel. Cpl Sahai was the JNCO In Command whilst onboard, leading a team of five chefs responsible for feed- ing 800 people in a junior ranks’ galley. The Royal Navy employs chefs from all over the world, and he worked alongside chefs from New Zealand, Australia, and even the American Navy. Cpl Sahai was keen to expand his Tri-Service knowledge and this tour certainly gave him that opportunity. He was also able to ex- plore a little as HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH dropped anchor in Halifax, Florida, Virginia, and Annapolis whilst he was on ship. Cpl Sahai clearly enjoyed his time and will undoubtably ask to go again in the future; he has gained an abundance of knowledge and is putting that to use straight away now he is back with the Royal Lancers.
The Catering Department was busy in 2019 and we look forward to yet another busy year in 2020 with The Royal Lancers.
