 Exercise FINAL FLING 2019 saw a mixed herd of Officers migrate to northern Scotland for fresh winter pastures. Ar- riving at Rhifail Lodge, Sutherland for a week of field sports, the group prepared themselves for a range of activities from hill walking, red deer stalking, clay pigeon shooting, road cycling and rabbit shooting.
By far the most dangerous aspect of the week was not the un- predictable Highland weather, nor was it the density of Offic- ers looking the wrong direction through their binoculars. In fact, it was the self-catering nature of the week that proved to be surprising at best and near fatal at worst. Two serious incidents must be highlighted. The first involved Lt Scott, who, in an ef- fort to warm up his thermos flask before stepping off, decided it would be a good idea to put it in the Aga for 5 minutes. The resulting explosion preceded an almighty squawk and the erup- tion of laughter throughout the room.
The second involved Maj Horsfall. Having spent so long din- ing in what we now can only assume was the most exotic dining establishment in the defence estate at PJHQ, he announced he would embark in a culinary masterpiece, much to the dismay
