 Sports and Adventurous Training
Inaugural Sports Dinner Night
Sport and Adventurous Training remain a central part of regi- mental life and it is vital that we continue to recognise the achievements of our people. As you would have read in previ-
ous Chapkas, and again this year, we continue to participate and achieve at the highest levels: from orienteering, football and rugby to skiing, boxing and cycling to name only a few. This was signified earlier in the year by the Regiment coming at the top of 12 Armoured Infantry Brigade and 3 (UK) Division, beating some 45 units to win the coveted GOC’s Iron Trophy for physi- cal development. It was therefore long overdue that we estab- lish some means to routinely recognise the achievements and commitment of our soldiers and officers, individual and team, through the presentation of The Royal Lancers Colours.
The Colours criteria have been drawn up by a committee and the first board convened that will now sit annually in Novem- ber. Any Royal Lancer soldiers and officers at RD and ERE are eligible and the strict criterion recognise achievement as much as commitment, leadership and representation from unit up to National level.
To give an appropriate platform for the presentation of these Colours we held our first sports dinner night in November when over 150 of the Regiment’s ranks sat down to a three-course meal in a ‘BBC Sports Awards’ style-event. The night was planned and executed by Captain Cave, Warrant Officer Class 2 Mukun- gunugwa, Staff Sergeant Burnell and Corporal’s Pipe, Chaplin

For many Troopers it was their first formal dinner ever and served as both an inspira- tion for joining the Corporals’ and Sergeants’ Mess as much as encourage participation in sport and adventurous training.
