REGIMENTAL JOURNAL OF THE ROYAL LANCERS (QUEEN ELIZABETHS’ OWN)
It has been a good years fishing for the Royal Lancers Carp anglers. Five anglers fished qualifying matches as and when they could get away to try and qualify for the Army team. As a pair, WO2 Dyer and SSgt Hill managed to win the second event seemingly catching almost every fish in the lake, with SSgt Hill netting the second biggest fish of the season from all anglers at 25lb 10oz. SSgt Mawby went on to win the third event without even catching a fish – now that’s skill!
At the end of the qualifiers two Lancers had made the cut to represent the Army in the Tri-service match held at Manor Farm Fisheries in Kent. SSgt Mawby was quietly confident having caught a personal best on this lake in round four of the quali- fiers, a 20lb 5oz mirror. This confidence was misplaced. Paired with WO2 Dyer, they struggled to build a productive swim. This was due to the Navy team next to them cheating by reeling in all the fish. Despite these underhand tactics, Dyer and Mawby put up a good fight and finished third in their grouping by just 3oz despite catching more fish than the second placed pair from the RAF. The Army finished second overall.
The new season is off to a flying start with WO2 Dyer (newly ap- pointed Army Carp Secretary) “pulling a Mawby” and winning

 Exercise SUPREME GLACIER
The Royal Lancers Light Aid Detachment (LAD) finished a busy and exciting year with some well-deserved skiing, snowboarding and Telemarking in Austria. The exercise is an annual race development camp for the Royal Electrical and Me- chanical Engineers, highlighting any talent for the Army Cham- pionships. The Royal Lancers LAD sent 18 soldiers, which comprised of old and bold veterans and complete novices. With the news of plenty of snow on the slopes and Christmas leave around the corner, the soldiers were in high spirits and set off on Friday 6th December 2019. The Saturday and Sunday mainly comprised of copious amounts of travelling, registering with the exercise director and getting all equipment required. Mon- day 13th December saw each soldier being put into their ability
group with an instructor for the week. Some excited and nervous faces before we went off to tackle the slopes.
The ski slopes (Stubai-Glacier) were a 20-minute drive from our accommodation in Neustift, which proved an interesting drive with some young guns behind the wheel. Having never driven on the right side of the road, and in icy conditions, all that can be said is thank goodness for winter tyres and snow chains. After a long day on the slopes all the soldiers would meet up in the Um- brella bar sharing stories of the numerous times they had fallen. The week was thoroughly enjoyed by all and more importantly no one was injured culminating in the soldiers returning on Sat- urday 14th December 2019.
