Getting out and about...
‘Hansel and Gretel’
Sunday 26th November, 4pm St James Church, Thrapston
Thrapston Plaza Opera give a ‘semi-staged’ Concert Performance of this well loved fairy tale, set to music in 1893 by the German composer Engelbert Humperdinck. It will be sung in English by our TPO principals and
a choir of local children with wind orchestra accompaniment.
Out picking berries, the young Hansel and Gretel get lost in a dark, haunted forest. They fall asleep under the protection of ‘fourteen guardian angels’ until awoken by the ‘dew fairy’. In the morning light they discover a Witch’s ‘gingerbread house’ and begin to tuck in! The wicked Witch plans to turn the pair into tasty ‘gingerbread men’ but they out-trick her and cast her into her own oven. The spell broken, other children emerge from the forest and are joyfully reunited with their parents.
Families are invited to this production as a preparation for the Christmas season: Adult tickets £10, accompanied children FREE. There will be one interval at which refreshments will be served; the performance will end by 6pm.
