 E COMPANY CHRISTMAS WEEKEND
By Lt Liz Field
During December E Company took part in their final weekend of the year. Setting off on the Saturday with detachment teams being tested in 7 stands to find the champion detachment. The stands included fieldcraft, drill, the cadet field gun, command tasks, first aid, shooting and a quiz.
The Basic Cadre held their own Egg-cellent Christmas Competition with command tasks, signals, cup stack, bridge building, military knowledge and teambuilding tasks.
The cadets were also treated to a surprise from Peter Knight, British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS) with their Operation Ice Cream van attending for an afternoon delight.
The cadets worked hard with Waltham detachment coming first, followed by Epworth in second and
Barton third. After working up an appetite, the cadets were served a Christmas dinner by all the adult volunteers followed by the Cadet Company Sergeant Major giving his end of year speech.
Sunday morning saw dinosaurs, a shark, several Grinchs plus multiple other characters for the entire company running or walking a sponsored fun run in fancy dress. Nearly £4000 was raised for the Mission Christmas Cash for Kids, enabling disadvantaged children in the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire area to have presents for Christmas.
Major Matt Lundie; Officer Commanding ‘E’ Company, summed the weekend up by saying “I was impressed with the effort, teamwork and the fusion between cadets and adults in producing an excellent cadet experience.”
