SPACE
The Squadron has engaged three times on space-re- lated subjects:
Cadets learned about topics including Space Surveillance and Tracking and Space Situational Awareness
1. An inspirational presentation on Space Security by Squadron Leader (ret'd) 'Dinz' Dinsley from Northern Space Security who talked about his career, and cadets learned about topics including Space Surveillance and Tracking and Space Situational Awareness.
2. The squadron also welcomed Mert Evirgen as a guest speaking about Space Law Games, a new topic of interest considering the potential legal implications and liabilities that could arise from incidents in space – an area of growing interest worldwide as we launch more and more satellites into orbit, and which support a variety of aspects of day-to-day life for both the military and civilian use, such
as satellite navigation systems. Mert talked about some actual events that had occurred and led the cadets through a theoretical exercise using some of the principles of war games.
3. Civilian Instructor Sue Doubell also presented an update session on the NASA Mars 2020 mission, the Perseverance Rover and the Ingenuity Helicopter, which are expanding
our knowledge of the planet. She also talked about the ongoing SpaceX Dragon missions to the International Space Station.
Meanwhile, in parallel with the Virtual Meetings on Tuesdays the Squadron continued some cadet training in virtual sessions on Friday evenings, delivering subjects such as:
• Airmanship for First Class Cadet
• Air Power for Senior/Master Cadet
• Blue level Space syllabus
• Basic (Blue level) Radio Communications
• Initial Expedition Training for First Class Cadet
