CADET BILLY VICKERAGE:
A REAL COMMUNITY HERO
By Billy Vickerage
Within Army Cadets, I started the completion of my Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in which I had to undergo a few tasks. These tasks include showing improvement on a skill, in addition to physical growth. Volunteering was one of these tasks.
For my volunteering, I contacted the parish council to go to a local area within my village to cut down
the passage and make it so the local dog walkers are able to get through without all of the overgrown bushes being in the way. The passage is exactly 1 kilometre long and took me quite a while to finish.
I started around mid-August during my summer holidays off school and continued until around mid-September and stopped for a while before the weather started getting worse.
After the weather started getting better I went up again around February to finish it off and finally completed it. Seeing all of the comments on Facebook appreciating the work that I have done makes me happy and glad that I could help.”
Holton Le Clay Parish Council posted on their public page and has received numerous comments praising Billy’s work - https://www.facebook.com/ holtonleclayparishcouncil

“Well done Billy! This route used to be such a lovely walk before the houses were built across the line and reduced footfall. I look forward to being able to walk it again. Hopefully fellow walkers can just snip a little each time they pass - that way the walk will remain accessible to us all”
“Fantastic effort. Our youngsters get a bad press sometimes but the vast majority are brilliant people.”
“Well done Billy. You can have the job permanently if you wish.”
“Well done it looks great and we will be walking it when it’s a bit warmer and drier”
“Well done, let’s hope it keeps tidy and people take their rubbish home with them x”
“Wow, that’s fantastic. What a great thing to do for the community. Thank you”
        After clearing the track
“Wow, that’s brilliant. Well done We love this walk”
