St. John Ambulance and SCC volunteer, Sub Lt (SCC) Dwain Longley OStJ RNR was promoted from Member to Officer within the Order of St. John of Jerusalem on the 10th May 2021. First invested in 2015 to a Member of the Order for his voluntary work as a District Clinical Lead

Dwain has recently been appointed as the Officer in Charge at Castleford Sea Cadets and has been with the Corps since 2014, being promoted to Sub Lieutenant in 2020. He has held a variety of roles supporting the unit staff and cadets; and prior to the pandemic had been supporting Eastern Area with first aid training.
As part of the promotion Dwain will be receiving the medal of the Order (Officer Grade) presented by the Prior of St. John Ambulance Surgeon Rear Admiral Lionel Jarvis CBE KStJ FRCH DL on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen once the current restrictions surrounding the current pandemic are lifted.
HULL SEA CADETS TS IRON DUKE
80TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SINKING OF HMS HOOD
On the 24 May the ship’s company took part in the commemoration of the Battle of Denmark Strait. This was a battle in which HMS Hood was lost with the lives of 1,415 of her crew. It was a devastating loss to Britain and its allies.
The HMS Hood Association advised us that 11 members of the crew were from Hull. To honour them, eleven Cadets from TS Iron Duke lit an individual candle as the names of the lost Hull crew were read out.
Royal Marine Cadet Jack Dimment read out a special prayer prepared by Padre who, unfortunate- ly, was unable to attend that evening.
We will remember them.
