 APACHE CALLS
To the great delight of Captain Ian Mumby, E Coy Training Officer, an Apache attack helicopter made a surprise visit during Fieldcraft training around the Harrier airstrip. The Apache, on a training sortie from a local Army Air Corps unit, made many passes over cadets undertaking section attacks and added a great deal of realism.
Captain Mumby never one for posing, immediately positioned himself between the PIO and his camera and the low flying aircraft. He assured the PIO that he had not realised he was just about to take a photograph, and was just walking over to tell some cadets about the helicopter.
Following the Apache was a flying pink elephant!
The PIO never one for also missing a chance of a promotional picture snapped the Apache flying over an ACF branded load lugger trailer.

£1000 for local hero of his community
Flight Lieutenant Peter Carrington, Officer Commanding 35 (Wetherby) Squadron got quite
a surprise on a recent parade night when a film crew arrived and his staff announced that they had nominated him and he had been awarded a Quaker Oats Local Hero Award.
Peter had no idea that Officer Cadet Gareth Thomas had nominated him to Quaker Oats who were running a national campaign to find the local heroes who actually “Make more of their morning” with a getting up and getting on with it attitude. Peter is seen with his award after being presented with
it by Officer Cadet Thomas. The award comes with £1000 for the squadron to spend on a project of its choice and a new Flight Simulator will soon be at the Wetherby HQ. Flt Lt Carrington said “It was quite a surprise and I am really pleased about it especially the much needed money for the flight simulator.” Peter also received a certificate from Quaker.

    COMMANDANTS FINAL INSPECTION
Commandant Air Cadets, Air Commodore Ian Stewart is leaving the Corps at the end of May 2010 to take up other RAF duties. His last formal visit was to inspect Central and East Yorkshire Wing on 16th May at RAF Linton on Ouse.
The inspection had been arranged around the Wing Training Day with the Commandant visiting every
event and presenting Trophies. Wing Commander Steve Wiggins, Officer Commanding Central and East Yorkshire Wing said "A good day seems
to have been had by all and everyone who took part, both adults and cadets, put on a sparkling performance. It was a long and arduous day but everyone should be very proud of the way they portrayed the Central and East Yorkshire Wing to the Commandant".
The overall winners of the Wing Training day were 110 (City of York) Squadron.
