Preparing for the 2023 Synod of Bishops in Rome – an invitation!
No, not an invitation to attend in person but prayerfully to think about the rôle of the Church in the world, what it’s like being a Catholic today, and to share those thoughts with fellow parishioners, with our priests and bishops. This certainly is a challenge, one that Pope Francis offers us all when he says: “In these days, Jesus calls us to empty ourselves, to free ourselves from all that is worldly, including our inward- looking and outworn pastoral models and to ask ourselves what is the direction in which God wants to lead us.”
There is no formal agenda and every parish may approach this in whichever way they
find best. The essence of the task is to listen graciously to one another in quietness and allow the Holy Spirit to guide our discernment. Our thoughts will be gathered at Parish and Diocesan level and delivered to all the Bishops meeting at the 2023 Synod.
At St Paul’s we held a course of three one hour meetings in December with a dozen representative members of the parish. Those who were unable to attend then may still like to share their thoughts and dreams for the future of the worldwide Church.

Happy New Year!
Two years ago, a new decade dawned. Whatever future we hoped for then, none of us were prepared for what transpired. At the start of 2022, we face many uncertainties regarding
our post-pandemic world. Fear for the safety of ourselves and loved ones has been paramount as the sureties we previously leaned upon have been shaken. All this, despite living in an age where so many enjoy a quality of health, wealth and comfort that would have been unthinkable several generations ago, where diseases far more deadly than COVID-19 were commonplace.
We long for security and freedom from all
that would threaten it, sometimes failing to consider what price we’re willing to pay. We are bombarded with promises and slogans, be it from political parties or corporate and global entities, heralding a brighter tomorrow free from sickness, poverty, environmental disaster, even death itself perhaps.
Please see our website for the COVID safeguards we will continue to practice for the time being (www.thrapstonbaptist.co.uk/covid- safeguards). Recordings of our services are still being made available via our website (www. thrapstonbaptist.co.uk/podcasts)
The services planned for January will have the following themes and preachers:
Sunday 2nd Combined with St James at TBC Sunday 9th Communion Service
Sunday 16th Morning Service Sunday 23rd Morning Service Sunday 30th All-Age Family Service
