OUNDLE MUSEUM
The Museum is now closed until the beginning of March next year and
we would like to thank all of our fabulous volunteers and wish them all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Our volunteers have helped us from stewarding and keeping the Museum open, to working behind the scenes.
We have had a very exciting
new archaeological addition to our
collection recently and it will be on
display for our new season next March.
In 2020 a metal detectorist found a
‘hoard’ in the local area, which turned
out to be Bronze Age! It included some
hand axes and a spear head. This all
adds to the amazing history of Oundle.
The ‘hoard’ went through the treasure process at the British Museum and was offered to us to purchase. We were able to do this with generous donations from the Oundle Feoffees and the NVAT (Nene Valley Archaeological Trust) to whom we give our grateful thanks. A photo of one of the axes is included here as a taster!
Although we have had a good year this season, we would like to ask if local people would consider becoming a ‘Friend’ of the Museum and support us financially. The Museum is run by a completely volunteer
