friends. She retired in 1978, and went on to enjoy an active retirement to the great age of 101.
Betty continued her loyalty to the QAs, and in 1968 became one of the founder members of the QA Association Welsh Branch and played an active part in the branch ever since. She was Vice Chair for a number of years and in those early times many a committee meeting was held at her home.
Betty’s travels with the QAs obviously gave her a desire to see more of the world. She had a yearning to go back to South Africa to visit Oribi camp, and it was not until she was in her 70s that she revisited, with her nephew, this place that she had served in 50 years earlier. To her amazement it was still there, a collection of Nissan huts, just as she had left it all those years ago, now a camp for the less fortunate. From there she visited Port Elizabeth, following the Garden Route to Cape Town.
Age did not hold her back and in subsequent years Betty went on to visit the Great Wall of China, Hong Kong, Phuket, India, Italy, Prague and Spain, often celebrating the New Year with different cultures. For her 80th

birthday, instead of a party, Betty asked her family to take her on a trip to visit Mexico, taking in the Copper Canyon, Oaxaca and the amazing dolphins.
Betty’s life was dedicated to the service of others and she enjoyed her chosen career wherever she spent it. Although Betty never married she was
blessed with a loving and caring family, with whom she was very close. Her nephew describes her as his friend, mentor, confidante and adviser and, of course “always a lady”.
