The 2022 AGM was the first held in person for since 2019 (the cause being the obvious COVID 19 restrictions) and saw a fantastic weekend of activity whilst covering a lot of AMA business. The weather held and groups went rock climbing, scrambling and hill walking in the glorious North Wales’ mountains on both Saturday and Sunday. The AGM itself was held on the Saturday evening with much of the business focusing on the finances and the change in committee roles (see page 4), but for me the real highlight was the talk, and question & answer session by former Alpine Club President and three times(!) Piolet D’or winner Mick Fowler. A really inspiring talk that shows how much can be done whilst also balancing work and life commitments – we should all take note!
Firstly, on behalf of all of the committee, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all of those who have volunteered to come and work with us! We would also like to wish those moving on from the committee a huge vote of thanks for the hard work and effort they have put into the roles for significant periods of time.
There have been several significant changes to the committee. The biggest change will saw Major General David Southall retire and leave the role of AMA President. Brigadier Adam Corkery has filled the void and is keen to be involved. Colonel Liz Dallyn, after decades in the association, has stepped down as chairman, replaced by Lt Col Pete Davis who hands ski-mountaineering over to Martin South. Paddy Snow is staying involved in wider AMA activity but has chosen to move aside with Kenny Geoghan taking up the role of Vice-Chairman (Sports Climbing). Out of the committee meeting we have had Chris Dale come forward to volunteer to work with TahDah as our relationship manager. This will be ratified at the next AGM in 2023.
