The Chrysanthemum and Dahlia Show
One of my favourite things to do in autumn is to visit flower shows, and in my opinion one of the best is held locally by the Denton Chrysanthemum and Dahlia Society (D.C.& D.S) here in east Manchester. I know this should really have been in an autumn or winter edition of the magazine, but with the horrible weather outside and wet soaking ground on my allotment, I needed a gardening fix.
The great thing about photos is the instant recall you get remembering
the image of a hall full of prize blooms, and the impact they have. Luckily
here in east Manchester, we still have lots of small local shows, full of great homegrown flowers and vegetables and homemade cakes, scones, buns and my all-time favourite: plate apple pies!
Another thing to look forward to are the plant sales from D.C. & D.S. I know the members will be working in their greenhouses at the Wilton Allotments, Hyde Rd in Denton, taking cuttings and growing plants on ready for the sales to the members and the public. But perhaps more importantly is the excellent advice you are given to help you grow on your plants in reaching for perfection!
