Denford Thespians at it again...
Next February Denford Thespians will celebrate 27 years since their first production in 1997, Cinderella. Since then they’ve covered just about every panto story, and regular writers Will Adams and Peter Fairweather have increasingly been interspering the pantos with comedy plays of their own invention.
The 2023 sell-out production was Spylarks, set during the 1960s Cold War. The action took place mainly in the offices of British Intelligence and the Russian Embassy in London.
Will and Peter’s brand-new play, Fresh
Heir, to be performed in Denford Village Hall between Tuesday 27 February and Saturday 2 March 2024, also exploits the comic potential of misunderstanding, as everyone believes the 12th Duke of Smallhampton is about to pop his clogs – everyone, that is, except the Duke himself! As a result the Duke and Duchess’s two sons and their wives vie with each other as discreetly as
possible to discover who might be best to take on the mantle of 13th Duke. Unlucky for some, perhaps... During a chaotic family weekend party, further complications and revelations only serve to make matters worse, especially since the proceedings are being recorded as part of a forthcoming Radio 4 documentary about the Smallhamptons.
Rehearsals are already well under way for what is actually Will and Peter’s 25th script for the DTs, involving the regular and very popular DTs’ company of players. Paul Carter is once again in the director’s seat and doing his best to make sense of it all!
