Getting out and about...
THRAPSTON AND RAUNDS ROTARY NEWS
In common with Rotary Clubs from all over the UK, your local Rotary Club sends money to Ukraine where Ukrainian Rotarians use it to support their people in many ways including food banks. Rotary Clubs are also helping Ukrainians who have sought safety in the
UK. We have recently helped a young mother and her six year old daughter who have been welcomed into a local family home. Our club has provided help by contributing to the cost of providing school uniform and some of the other necessities needed for the daughters start at a local school.
Rotary Club members don’t only try to
make a positive difference by providing help
to individuals or charities, they also provide voluntary service which was illustrated by
the way members from our local clubs came together to support the vaccine effort. Members also, sometimes, get the chance to enjoy a variety of social events and trips of various kinds. In October some of our members
and their partners enjoyed a trip to see the Philharmonia Orchestra at the De Montfort Hall, Leicester. The highlight of the evening
was the performance of cellist Sheku Kanneh- Mason. Some readers may remember that, following on from winning the BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2016, Sheku went on
to perform at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
We continue to rely on, and thank, the general public for their help with our fundraising. We are also always interested in hearing from anyone who might be interested in joining the Rotary. Further details about our activities can be found on the club Facebook page.
   THRAPSTON COMMUNITY ROTARY SHOEBOXES
We fund our boxes from the proceeds of two garage sales a year. This allows us to purchase boxes and items to fill them. So everyone who registered for a garage pitch played a part.
We do other fundraising and have received donations too. We held our Shoebox Make a Box Day in The Plaza on October 1st. Lots of people came – what an amazing day – community spirit was great – 300 boxes made to go with 100 already done – 100 to go.
People worked hard to put love in a box. I hope you all enjoyed the experience.
Think of the smiles on people’s faces when they open them! Rotary boxes are good value and help so many people.
We would especially like to thank Chris Bletsoe, for storage space all year, and printing our garage maps. Thanks to the Rotary members for their support and to all who came and helped, or made a box.
To people who knit for us year round and the community – you are amazing
A big thank you!
Lindsey, Cindy and team
