Sgt Hardwicke led some excellent real life simulation Tpr Bugg-Burke dies again Whoever said the Med team can’t multitask!
This year has shown the medical team being cast off to all cor- ners of the globe! Mainly Kenya, California and of course – Scotland! Kenya beckoned much of the medical team as Maj Hindmarsh, Sgt Hardwicke and LCpl Kendrick were all deployed on Exercise ASKARI STORM 1. Just to make things interesting the team were split and pitted on opposing sides – thankfully there were no heroics on either side and so no-one got stabbed in the back! The Regimental Medical Officer (RMO), Maj Hindmarsh instantly regretted his enjoyment comments to Commander BATUK when he was extended at short notice to cover the fol- lowing Battlegroup. However, a hotter than usual exercise enabled him to strongly advise the exercise was cut short and everyone return home earlier than expected.
The gapped RMO slot left the rest of the RAP team to do all the work. Sgt Davies and LCpl Clubb were whisked away to California to enjoy time in a Humvee. Apart from some interesting moments driving up and down cliff sides they seemed to enjoy the exercise and especially the post exercise AT.
The summer term saw a change of personnel and the RAP bid a fond farewell to several of our team. LCpl Clubb left the military to apply for University, LCpl Kendrick successfully transferred to become a nurse in the Army and Sgt Davies has handed over the reins to Sgt Pratt as she moved next door to 5 Medical Regiment. We wish them all the best of luck in their new posting.
Sgt Hardwicke took a small team armed with makeup to ensure that the Squadrons were given well made up casualties. These scenarios ensure that we are training with as high-fidelity sce- narios that we can manage. With an interesting 2020 being lined up, more and more training from this will be essential for our personnel.
The start of the winter term saw the RAP committed to the Regimental mounted exercise, Ex GALLOPING DRAGOON, where a small RAP was deployed to ensure that everyone was looked after effectively. Thankfully their services were not really required, but it did lead to some elements setting up the now well- established knitting club. Ensuring that any idle hands are pick- ing up knitting needles and not cigarettes.
2019 has been a busy of year of training and readiness and as every we are relieved that professionally we haven’t been used very much! The future of two deployments looks busy and set to chal- lenge the medical element for the better.
