 NEWS FROM REAR COMMODORE HOUSE
After the last report I wrote for The Yachter, it’s so good to be able to report on what we have been doing, as opposed to what we hope to do! During late summer and autumn, we certainly made up for lost time.
Over the August Bank Holiday Weekend, we had our first Gins Beer and Gin Festival. What a success! The barrels were drunk dry and we also raised money for the RSYC Trust with a Craft Fair. This is now destined to be an annual event. This year’s will be even bigger and better so put it in your diary now.
What can I say about the End of Summer Party? Awesome! The Arabian Nights met Gins in our exotically themed draped tent. The sumptuous banquet was amazing, the Middle Eastern dishes just kept coming. Dancing rounded off the evening.
October saw the return of the RSYC Quiz, with regular quiz masters Anton Bates and Robin Funnell. This has proved to be a great success, welcoming teams new and old. Who will be this year’s champions?
Trafalgar Night was another triumph. Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton even made an appearance, albeit in statuesque form!
Christmas Festivities included Christmas lunches, the Christmas Party and a Children’s Christmas Party. Look out for the pics of our infamous elves!
Membership has continued to grow. It’s been lovely to meet so many new members, not only at our regular social events, but also at our New Member Evenings. These have been a great opportunity for our ‘newbies’ to meet our Flag Officers and get to know more about the club, whether it’s Cruising, Racing, Social or just enjoying Gins in its fabulous setting on the Beaulieu River.
This is my last report for The Yachter as Rear Commodore House, but I know I am handing over to a strong team and wish my
successor well for the future. I am certainly looking forward to an action packed social programme this year!
