Posting to the forum and adding photos to your posts
Emily Plumb – following on from my last article, I thought it might be helpful to walk through how to make a post on the forum (including uploading photos to your post)
1. Once logged into the forum using your username and password, you click on the forum you wish to post under, for example “Showing” as shown in this screenshot.
2. Clicking on the forum name will bring up a list of existing threads which you can post under. To post under an existing thread, you can click on its name from this screen. To create a new thread, click on the “New Topic” button.
3. If you are replying to a post in an existing thread, once you have arrived at the correct thread, click on the “Post reply” button. If you wish to start a new thread, the same text box will appear, but you will also need to create a subject for your thread too.
4. This will link you to a text box which you can write your post in. Once you are nished and happy with your post, click “Submit”.
Due to restrictions on the website, to add photos to a post, they must be below 256KB in size. Therefore, it will be necessary to resize most photos before they can be uploaded to a post. Where a photo is uploaded which is too big, an error message will appear.
5. To resize your photo, open the photo in ‘Paint’ – a programme which is present on most laptops and computers and click on ‘Resize’.
6. A box will appear where you can change the dimensions of the photo. Click on “Pixels” and then change these to 640 (horizontal) by 480 (vertical). When saved, this photo should now be below the size limit for upload to the forum.
7. To upload photos to your post on the forum, write your post by following steps 1 to 4 exactly as above. However, before clicking “Submit” you will then need to scroll down the page to below the text box and click on “Upload attachment”. Click on “Browse” and then nd the resized photo that you previously saved. Click on this and then on the “Add the le” button.
8. Once uploaded, the photo can be found as follows. To add it to your post, you will need to click in the part of the post that you would like the photo to appear and then click “Place inline”. Follow steps 5 to 8 for as many photos as you would like to upload. Once you are nished, click “Submit”.
