                                 TRAINING
 TO INSPECT
A day of training, organised by East Riding & Northern Lincolnshire Local Councils
Association and delivered by NAS, was a great success.
The course, held in Hessle, East Yorkshire, was developed with the aim of helping town and administration clerks to understand allotment inspection best practice.
Attending the course were two councillors and fifteen clerks. The course was presented by Liz Bunting, Legal and Operations Manager of the National Allotment Society, and President, Phil Gomersall. There were also two representatives of the association to help with any questions and answer sessions.
The aims of the day included de-mystifying plot inspections, creating a plan, understanding practical aspects of inspection and the importance of communication.
The course covered:
• The National Allotment Society
• What is or should be in place with this process
• Legislation
• Robust rules, policies and procedures
• Cultivation regimes
• Site visit to put in practice
• Managing non-cultivation and terminations A review of the day concluded that the event had been well organised and that the training leader understood her subject. It was agreed that the course is more suited to administration officers than councillors, with good ideas on how to inspect and organise allotment sites.
It was also noted that NAS were very knowledgeable and answered the many questions with good humour - making the course quite entertaining.
