 A Heritage BBQ
Following The Heritage Open Day event, as we had the gazebo erected, we decided to have one of our BBQs for plotholders and friends.
This is always a good social event where plotholders get to know
those that they don’t usually bump into. The site provides the BBQs and plotholders bring their own food and any side dishes to share. Of course, we have tea and coffee etc. on hand. It is always a thoroughly enjoyable event.
Heritage Day
As part of the UK’s heritage Victory Garden Allotments, Leeds, our allotment site participated in Heritage Open Days, organised by the National Trust from the 8th – 17th September 2023. We have done this for a number of years now.
This year we only joined in for 3 hours on Saturday 9th September; you can stay for as long as you wish during the whole event.
We opened the allotment gates to the public, offered conducted tours around the site followed by refreshments for a small donation.
We had great fun in the morning, setting up the gazebo, trying to figure out which pole goes where and arranging the tables and chairs.
In addition, we created a display about the history of the site from 1919.
The event is always well received and offers something to the community and is good publicity for the allotment movement.
