35 ENGINEER REGIMENT
WO2 (QMSI) M Arlow RAPTC
A
t the time of writing this article I have had the pleasure of
serving with 35 Engineer Regiment for 9 months. Since
returning from Afghanistan in early 2012 the Regiment has
managed to maintain its ever present high tempo of commitments.
Assistance to Op Olympics and various exercises has ensured
that each of the Sub Units is continually living up to the Engineer
motto of “Ubique”.
My irst role in post was to complete the organisation of the
Regimental Annual Multi Activity Adventurous Training Exercise to
Garmisch, Bavaria. The exercise was a great success with Sub
Units rotating through Mountain Biking, Kayaking, Trekking and
Climbing. It can safely be said that each and every participant
made full use of the fantastic facilities on offer at the US Forces run
Edelweiss Lodge & Resort.
The Regt hosted the RE (Winter) Games in January this year with
all 3 Major RE Units sending their sporting elite and some not so
elite to compete across the 6 Sports. The day was completed
with each Unit competing in the Chain of Command event. A 10
discipline itness challenge, that required the team members to
be pushed physically as individuals and team members. With the
Capt Bostock-competing in the Mountain Bike Challenge-RE (Winter)Games 2013
scores totalled and competition inished for the day, 35 Engr Regt
where announced the Winners. A mention should be made to the
Oficials who gave up there time to assist and ensured that “Fair
Play” was achieved at all times.
On a personal note, I have continued to represent the Corps at
Hockey and managed to it in some fantastic AT experiences. I
strongly believe that although the Army and Corps require our
full commitment, we should not ignore the need for individual job
satisfaction and a happy family life. It is a real pleasure to be
working with a Unit that has struck such a ine balance.
Looking forward, the Regt are preparing for a busy period of
training before deploying next year on Herrick 20.

“A
nd now the time is near, when
we face the inal curtain”!
My time with the 1st The
Queen’s Dragoon Guards (QDG) has inally
come to an end and what a rollercoaster
ride it has been. I have enjoyed the highs
of sporting triumphs and the lows of such
sad duties as OP Pabbay!
The QDG have been a great friend over
the years, and in the last year alone we
faced together that “Once in a lifetime
opportunity” of the Op Olympics, so glad
it only comes once per lifetime! We also
celebrated the SSAFA Big Breakfast in
true cavalry style with an adventurous
run around the “sandy mile (more like
22 miles)”. The SNCOs’ that took part
obviously had recce’d the route and
