   CADET REVIEW SPRING 2021 3
                                  FOREWORD
As this edition goes to print the country is in another lockdown
which is testing the cadet forces; however, what they are all showing is resolve and determination to deliver whatever training and opportunities are possible to the cadets and adults despite the challenges of having to work in a virtual arena.
This can be seen in an excellent example of a “can do” attitude from the four Lord-Lieutenant’s Award ceremonies held in the autumn,
all of which were required to be
held virtually, another first for the organising team at RFCA and a vastly different experience for the Lord-Lieu- tenants, adult recipients and the new Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets.
The events were pre recorded slightly in advance of the screening day with all the necessary precautions and whilst completely different from previous years did allow twelve outstanding cadets to be recognised together with adult volunteers from across the county.
The Lord-Lieutenants are looking forward to meeting the recipients as and when this is possible to congrat- ulate them personally rather than by means of Zoom.
Clearly, at present, it is not known how many other much awaited events
will have to be cancelled or postponed, but rest assured, the adult volunteers of each service will do their utmost
to ensure that their cadets and
adults enjoy as much of the “Cadet Experience” as is possible under the circumstances when they are able to do so.
You may have had your eye caught by a picture and title on the front cover “From Air Cadet to RAF Fighter Pilot” and if so, do read the story and interview with Mandy Hickson. If it encourages any cadet to aim high it will have succeeded in showing what opportunities are possible.
Please continue to send, high quality stories and pictures in for
the magazine, which makes for excellent reading material, not just around Yorkshire and the Humber,
but nationally. A plea though, do look closely at the quality of the pictures being sent with stories; many have been rejected as they of poor quality or content and would detract from what would otherwise be good contribu- tions. Keep sending your stories and do please note the copy dates below and the guidance notes on submission of articles.
